In an interview, she talks about her duties as a sustainability officer and her personal connection to sustainability.
Dear Maren, could you please introduce yourself briefly?
With pleasure. I have a Master of Science in Sustainable Development and am EVOMOTIV in July 2022 as a master's student and wrote my master's thesis on the development and implementation of a strategic sustainability management system using the example of EVOMOTIV Group. Since March 1, 2023, I have been employed full-time as a sustainability officer at EVO.
What is the result of your master thesis in relation to EVOMOTIV ?
EVOMOTIV started at the beginning of 2022 with the aim of setting up a sustainability management system. Here, team members from another project who had free hours available for the project initially dealt with the topic of sustainability. I then joined in July and carried out a status analysis in my master's thesis. That is, I analyzed how EVOMOTIV in terms of sustainability. The aim was to find out where key priorities can be set in order to develop sustainability management. In addition, the topic of sustainability reporting is becoming increasingly important in the EU, which is why I have started to collect the necessary data for EVO in order to prepare ourselves for this in the long term.
Sustainability is one of the five major corporate goals of EVOMOTIV. What does that mean exactly?
Sustainability is an integral part of our corporate strategy and integrates social, ecological and economic requirements. EVOMOTIV has set itself the goal of creating a sustainability identity and we are on the way there. We want to take responsibility and make a positive contribution to people and the environment.
Which business areas does sustainability cover?
Sustainability is very complex and encompasses almost all areas: from occupational health and safety, information security and data protection to guidelines and legal requirements, the health of employees and the reduction of our CO2 emissions. Sustainability overlaps with almost every specialist area and is an all-encompassing topic.
The three dimensions of sustainability are divided into the areas of environmental, social and governance, or ESG summarized.
What are your first steps towards sustainability at EVOMOTIV?
The first step is to define a sustainability strategy as well as goals and associated measures. Annual goals will then be set to achieve the goal of a sustainability identity and to see how we can implement this. Another first step will be to develop a database or system to record the necessary key figures. Concrete examples include switching to green electricity, expanding our photovoltaic systems and expanding our donations and sponsorships.

What does sustainability mean to you personally?
I believe that every person on this planet has a responsibility for their fellow human beings and their environment. Everyone can make a positive contribution, even through small things. Anything is better than doing nothing.
