For 8 days at the beginning of February, four test engineers from the EVOMOTIV GmbH went to Sweden for winter testing. A business trip that will be remembered.
As far as the eye can see, the landscape is covered in a deep blanket of snow that stretches over forests, hills and lakes. The thermometer shows -30 degrees Celsius. From gloves and thick socks to a hat and scarf, nothing should be missing from your suitcase.
The journey begins in a chartered plane. The cargo: exclusively engineers, all of whom have the same goal: to test prototypes under extreme conditions to ensure that they function optimally in every situation.
Sweden's geographical location and climatic conditions make it ideal for conducting winter tests. These tests involve testing vehicles under extreme conditions, such as low temperatures, heavy snowfall and slippery road conditions. Conditions can change quickly at any time, which means that test engineers have to be flexible in responding to new challenges. Some tests may be cancelled or postponed due to snowstorms or strong winds, which requires spontaneity and improvisation.
Shortly before midday it is already dimly light and just two hours later darkness sets in. You only see the sun for a few hours and within a week there is a temperature difference of over 3 degrees Celsius from +30 degrees Celsius to -30 degrees Celsius. As quickly as the darkness comes, however, the green, violet and red veils appear in the sky: the spectacle of the Northern Lights. An after-work light that stays in your memory.
Test engineers play a crucial role in winter testing. They are responsible for conducting tests and collecting data. Various aspects are tested. In this special cold test, the focus was on testing emergency and lane departure warning systems (reference project).

In addition to the busy week, the free Sunday is an absolute highlight for our EVOMOTIV Engineers: A snowmobile tour. An unforgettable experience that includes cruising through an impressive snow landscape, a campfire in the middle of the wilderness and encounters with huskies.
The next test is already in the starting blocks for one or two test engineers: This time, however, the warm winter clothes will be left at home, because we are going to the (hopefully) sunny south!
