- Automated driving

In order to further expand its own knowledge in the field of driver assistance systems, EVOMOTIV initiated the project "Development of a demonstrator for driver assistance systems".
Project Details
Initial situation:
EVOMOTIV GmbH offers its customers a wide range of services in the field of driver assistance systems. The functions and systems developed in the automotive industry are becoming increasingly complex as driving functions become more autonomous. To continue being successful in this area in the future, building internal knowledge and expertise is central to EVOMOTIV. For this purpose, the project 'Development of a Demonstrator for Driver Assistance Systems' was initiated.
Project assignment:
The aim of the project is to develop an intelligent demonstrator. This should be able to complete a course independently, for example as part of customer presentations. This can be used to illustrate various principles of autonomous driving and functions of driver assistance systems.
Implementation:
As part of their final theses and internships, students independently work on individual subject areas of the overall "demonstrator" system. This resulted in a demonstration prototype on a scale of 1:10. This houses the necessary sensors (front camera and ultrasonic sensors) and other hardware such as a development computer. The focus of the design was on easy expandability and scalability. This principle was also applied to the software. On the basis of a "ROS" (Robot Operating System) and "OpenCV", a modularly expandable software environment was created to handle a wide variety of driving situations.
Solution:
The current status of the project already allows the vehicle to drive along a course. To do this, lanes are recognized with the camera and transferred to a lateral guidance system. Stop signs can also be recognized and obstacles avoided. This development stage forms the basis for further optimization of the control algorithms and the implementation of additional functions.
