The mobility of tomorrow requires innovative technologies that make vehicles not only smarter but also safer. Computer vision, simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) and augmented reality (AR) play a key role in this. But how can these technologies revolutionize navigation, environmental recognition and validation of driver assistance systems (ADAS)?
In the latest EVOTechInsights interview, Marco, team leader at EVOMOTIV, exciting insights into the world of car IT, image processing and AI-supported localization. His expertise lies in SLAM technology, which helps vehicles to find their way autonomously in unknown environments.
“I am excited by the combination of research and industrial application – there are no fixed solutions, but rather iterative optimization through algorithms, sensor fusion and machine learning.”
Augmented Reality as the Key to More Precise ADAS Validation
The development of modern Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) requires precise validation and verification before they are used in series vehicles. However, classic test methods that rely exclusively on real road scenarios are often inflexible, time-consuming and not fully reproducible.
One solution provides an augmented reality (AR)-based test environment.
The concept:
Instead of driving on real roads multiple times with physical traffic signs, the system places virtual objects in the environment - directly on the road and visible to the vehicle. This allows different scenarios, traffic signs and positions to be tested dynamically and repeatedly.
Advantages of this method:
– Testing during development – not just at the end, but throughout the entire development process
– Maximum flexibility and efficiency – quick adaptation of test conditions without physical changes to the test track
– Combination of virtual and real tests – for more precise and resource-efficient validation

"Our goal is to make the validation of ADAS systems with AR even more flexible and efficient - without foregoing real tests, but with a smart addition of virtual scenarios."
With this approach, EVOMOTIV actively contributes to the optimization of driver assistance systems and autonomous driving functions. By using AR, SLAM and AI-based image processing, it is possible to develop and validate ADAS systems faster, safer and more efficiently.
More about this in Interview with Marco, this in two parts and offers exciting insights into the technologies and methods behind the mobility of tomorrow.
